A step by step guide for PRP pre and post treatment
A step by step guide for PRP pre and post treatment
Here is Bella Forma Cosmetic Surgery’s suggested patient preparation for PRP Treatment. We will also discuss what to do post-treatment to get the best results.
Step one: What to do before PRP Treatment
5 – 7 days before treatment:
- STOP taking supplements that thin out the blood which increases bruising
- Green tea
- Omegas (Fish Oil) including fish
- Primrose oil
- St John’s Wort
- Vitamin E
- Nurofen
- Voltaren
- Aspirin (After consulting your doctor)
You also need to make sure you remain hydrated the whole week before your PRP appointment. We recommend drinking 3% of your body weight in water each day – with a minimum of 6 glasses per day. You should also continue this after your appointment to stay healthy.
Step Two: The Procedure
You will our facility, where Dr. Rajae Janho will perform the procedure along with his assistant. Dr. Janho has decades of experience so you can be confident you will be in the best hands during the procedure. We specialize in using the MAGELLAN® technology which provides an automated dual spin processing system that can deliver Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) as well as Platelet Poor Plasma (PPP).
As a leader in the industry, MAGELLAN® Autologous Platelet Separator System is designed to be used in the clinical laboratory or intraoperatively at the point-of-care for safe and rapid preparation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Arteriocyte Medical Systems continues to invest in platelet separation technology and is focused on the development of new surgical applications for PRP.
This method allows us to deliver active Platelet Rich Plasma to all of our patients in order to benefit 100% from the PRP treatment.
Step Three: PRP Post Treatment Instructions
Straight after treatment you should avoid touching your face for at least two hours to allow injection sites to heal over. If you do need to touch your face after treatment please wash and sterilize your hands to avoid infection. With clean hands you can then apply a natural cream by massaging it gently onto the face.
Does PRP cause swelling?
It’s important to know that swelling will be present for 24 to 48 hours, after this the swelling will subside so long as you sleep elevated and rest. It is normal for the treated area to feel sensitive for the following days, because of this you need to avoid oily skincare products and most make-up.
We also recommend taking Arnica tablets for the week before your appointment. Arnica is commonly sold commercially in tablet or cream form (which can be applied to the face).
Is Arnica Safe?
Arnica tablets are a natural supplement that has been used to reduce post-operative bruising and muscle strain. This supplement is commonly sold commercially in tablet or topical form and can be purchased from health food stores and chemists. Arnica is a homeopathic supplement that can also be used to treat shock and trauma, among other symptoms.
In order to minimize swelling and bruising after PRP treatment you need to avoid:
- Prolonged sunlight
- Rigorous exercise
- Saunas
- Hot baths
- Excessive amounts of alcohol
